  • Chana daal – 2 tbsp
  • Garlic cloves – 4 nos.
  • Ginger – 1-inch piece
  • Onion – 1 no. (finely chopped)
  • Dried Kashmiri red chilli – 3 nos.
  • Turmeric or Haldi – ¼ tsp
  • Oil – 2 tsp
  • Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – To taste
  • Water – As required

  • Take a dry pan and heat some oil in it.
  • Once the oil is hot, add chana daal to it. Sauté the daal till it becomes light golden brown in colour.
  • When the daal is sautéed, add garlic cloves, ginger and onion to it.
  • Sauté the ingredients until the onions turn translucent.
  • When it is done, add the whole red chillies, turmeric and salt to it.
  • Sauté the ingredients till the chillies are fried and turn crisp.
  • Once done, turn off the flame and let the mixture cool down completely.
  • When the mixture is cooled, transfer it to the blender. Blend the mixture into a smooth paste. Add water as required.
  • Transfer the mixture to a bowl and it is ready to serve.
