- Chana daal – 2 tbsp
- Garlic cloves – 4 nos.
- Ginger – 1-inch piece
- Onion – 1 no. (finely chopped)
- Dried Kashmiri red chilli – 3 nos.
- Turmeric or Haldi – ¼ tsp
- Oil – 2 tsp
- Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
- Salt – To taste
- Water – As required

- Take a dry pan and heat some oil in it.
- Once the oil is hot, add chana daal to it. Sauté the daal till it becomes light golden brown in colour.
- When the daal is sautéed, add garlic cloves, ginger and onion to it.
- Sauté the ingredients until the onions turn translucent.
- When it is done, add the whole red chillies, turmeric and salt to it.
- Sauté the ingredients till the chillies are fried and turn crisp.
- Once done, turn off the flame and let the mixture cool down completely.
- When the mixture is cooled, transfer it to the blender. Blend the mixture into a smooth paste. Add water as required.
- Transfer the mixture to a bowl and it is ready to serve.
